It is no secret that women are underrepresented in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) occupations. Women account for under 15% of the entire STEM workforce in the UK. Women make about half of the overall workforce.
Thankfully, interventions are slowly closing the gender gap. Nonetheless, the gap remains remarkably large.
Immediate intervention is tackling the stereotypes that act as a barrier to attract more girls to study STEM subjects at university.
What can be done in the long term to close the equality gap amongst girls and women who study STEM subjects?
